About Ali Jay
Throughout her career Ali Jay ( she/her) has been writing and performing in different genres: holiday camps, radio, and stand-up. In the ‘90s, Ali Jay and Kit/Christopher Green jointly hosted and ran Screamers, the first weekly LGBTQ comedy club in the UK. Ali Jay has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, Brighton Festival, and numerous clubs on the circuit around the country.
After, returning to comedy writing and performing, Ali Jay is now running affordable stand-up comedy courses in Brighton for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people who are under-represented in comedy. She is also running comedy fundraising nights for an LGBTQ+ community space, The Ledward Centre in Brighton. Following the course’s success, stand-up graduates have been performing in Brighton, London, and Newcastle.
In 2024 Ali Jay started a monthly LGBTQ+ new act/new material night, keeping comedy affordable there is no door charge and donations are welcome for those who can. (See Events)
Ali Jay is also promoting many new exciting acts at the Brighton Fringe Festival in May 2024 and will be performing her own show at The Brighton Fringe.
Alongside Stand-up, Ali Jay has taken part in several improvisation shows and loves, loves, loves to laugh. After being a participant in Laughter Yoga classes for a few years Ali Jay loved it so much that she retrained and is now a qualified Laughter Yoga teacher. Ali Jay is now offering sessions in Brighton and Hove and is available for bookings for Laughter Yoga to support well-being sessions in charities and organisations (see Events).
Ali Jay is currently working on her master’s course in Comedy Writing at Falmouth University, led by radio and TV comedy producer Simon Nicholls. She is excited to be producing a new portfolio of comedy as part of her studies.
